Clark Memorial Bridge reopened after fatal crash

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A deadly single car accident has closed the Clark Memorial Bridge between Louisville and southern Indiana.

The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. in the northbound curb lane of the bridge. According to Louisville Metro Police, a maroon Subaru was heading toward Indiana when for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the car and slip sideways into a steel support beam of the bridge.

Louisville firefighters had to cut the male driver, the lone occupant, from the car. He was taken to University Hospital where he died shortly after arrival. LMPD is looking at a possible medical condition as a cause in the accident.

Video from Air 3 showed the car involved is resting against the bridge rail approximately halfway across the span. The scene was cleared shortly before 5 p.m. and the bridge was reopened to traffic.
