LOUIVSILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two men arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the Thursday night shooting of two Jeffersonville, Indiana police officers have been released from custody.
Police now say that Vincent Windell, Jr. and 19-year-old Kyle Bieber were not involved in the shootings of 39-year-old Cpl. Dan Lawhorn and 32-year-old Officer Keith Broady.
According to police, the third suspect, 37-year-old Robert Datillo, got Windell and Bieber to get the room for him at the Clarksville Motel 6 because Datillo was wanted by police and did not want his name on the motel's registration.
Police tell us that polygraph tests given to both Windell and Bieber indicate that neither man was involved in the shooting.
"Both Bieber and Windell were cooperative with the investigation," said Jeffersonville Police Detective Todd Hollis. "They answered all the questions from our investigators. In fact, they both volunteered to submit to polygraph tests. They both passed polygraph tests. They give us information they had been in or around the hotel room ... just previous to the attack on our officers. They were able to provide information for us in the investigation."
Hollis said police consulted with prosecutors and decided there is not enough evidence to charge Bieber or Windell; both men were released around 5 p.m. Friday.
