Woman killed, man shot in Shawnee murder, attempted-suicide
Sources told WAVE 3 News the woman had taken a restraining order out against the alleged shooter a few months earlier

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman was killed and a man is in critical condition after a murder and attempted-suicide in the Shawnee neighborhood.
The call came in at 1:21 p.m. of a shooting near 35th and Main streets, Metrosafe said.
Around 1:30 p.m., LMPD Second Division officers responded to the call in the 3500 block of West Main Street.
Once on scene, crews found a woman who had been shot multiple times. Her injuries were fatal and she was pronounced dead at the scene, LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.
A short time later, officers heard gunfire in the area. When they arrived at the source of the gunfire, they found a man with a gunshot wound who is believed to have been the shooter, police said. He was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.
Robyn Bellamy said she’s the best friend of the woman’s mother. She rushed to the scene as soon as she got the call.
“I knew she was going to church and from what I was hearing, she was just coming out of the church,” said Bellamy. “For somebody to run up on you and have the intent in their mind to kill you.”
Bellamy describes the woman as a sweet and easy-going person supposed to go to the store and get mums with her mother after church. Bellamy said she was shot in the back.
“From what they’re saying, she asked him to get away--she never had an opportunity to escape or call the police,” said Bellamy.
Bellamy also revealed the woman had taken a restraining order out against the alleged shooter a few months earlier, saying the system failed her when it came to enforcement.
“It’s a joke,” said Bellamy. “It’s almost like something has to happen like this for them to wake up and take this seriously. You want to see this all the time?”
