Once on scene, 6th Division officers found a man and a woman inside the house with apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

EMS pronounced both dead on scene, LMPD Officer Matt Sanders said in a statement on Sunday evening.

Dozens of family members showed up on the scene. They did not want to appear on camera but they did claim this was the result of an abusive relationship coming to an end.

The family of the woman said she recently broke up with the man after a long abusive relationship. About a week ago, family members finally got her ex out of the house, only to have him break back in, cut the alarm system, and wait for the woman to get home.

They said she was on the phone with her mother when he put the gun to her head.

It’s unclear what happened after that, but the family said after he shot her, he then turned the gun on himself.

Neither the man or the woman involved have been publicly identified.

LMPD has not confirmed any of this information yet, but they did confirm they are not actively looking for a suspect.

The Homicide Unit is investigating.
