Shooting at Crums Lane Elementary leaves 1 dead, 1 injured
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - One person is dead and another injured after a shooting at Crums Lane Elementary School on Sunday night.
A call came in at 5:57 p.m. of a shooting at 3212 S. Crums Lane. That’s the address for Crums Lane Elementary School.
First responders arrived on scene and found two victims, both men in their 20s, Metrosafe said.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, LMPD PIO Alicia Smiley said.
“It’s a shady area over here at night,” nearby resident Layla Hood said.
Hood said she was walking home from work right before the shooting.
“I saw two guys walking down the other side of the road and five minutes later, when I got in the house and settled down, I heard like six or seven shots,” said Hood.
Police said there may have been a third person involved, simply because they don’t know who the shooter was.
It’s also unknown why the two men were at the school, but Hood says it’s not uncommon to see people there after hours.
“You've got drug deals, you’ve got people plotting on stuff, people just hang out behind the little park,” said Hood.
Hood is upset and frustrated with all the recent violence.
“Now we have a shooting on a school campus,” said Hood. “I walk by here all the time and see kids getting off the bus and walking home to their families.”
She said things like drugs and violence have unfortunately become the norm in the city.
“You don’t think about stuff like that, but when it happens its just like, ‘oh, another day in paradise.’”
There are currently no suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the LMPD at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
