Holiday Donation Drive looks to provide food, clothes for Louisville’s less fortunate
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two Louisville natives have plans to return home for the holidays and do some good for the community.
Molly Malone’s in St. Matthews will co-host a Holiday Donation Drive, focused on feeding and clothing families and individuals in need in Louisville. Boxes will be placed at Molly’s on December 21 from 11 a.m. to Midnight for community contributions.
Donations of canned and non-perishable food items will go to Dare to Care, an organization that provides millions of meals for Kentucky and Indiana’s hungry. Men’s and women’s clothing items - winter coats, pants, hats and gloves - are among the items also being sought during collection hours.
In addition, Molly’s will donate 10 percent of sales from a special evening event to the non profit.
The plan to collect for the community was put into action by friends Ben Graven and Michael Salot, both currently living in different areas of the country. Last year the pair, with some help from family and friends, collected several boxes of donated goods for local homeless shelters. But this year they said they wanted to make a bigger impact by involving more members of the metro.
“What we appreciate the most is being able to bring our friends and family together and give back to this city that has given us so much over the years," Salot said in a statement. "It’s the least we can do. We hope the entire Louisville community views this as an event where they can do the same with their friends and families as well.”
