LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A shelter for homeless women in Louisville received a big gift just in time for Christmas.

UP for Women and Children is a non-profit day shelter that opened over the summer. It’s located on South Second Street in downtown Louisville.

The shelter is a safe space to keep warm, shower, do laundry, and connect with each other. UP also connects women to services and support groups.

Thursday, the shelter received a $25,000 grant from Give 502.

“We’ve been seeing record numbers of women,” Andrea Scott, the Executive Director and Co-founder of UP, said. “This money is going to help us bring on a case manager so that we can better meet their needs, and to reach more women and just to build better capacity.”

UP has been serving about 50 woman and children each day, on average.

They are always looking for volunteers. If you’re interested in helping, click or tap here.
