BARDSTOWN, KY (WAVE) - On Friday afternoon, through investigation and with help from the community, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to locate a suspect traveling on Nelsonville Road in a car that had been reported as stolen.
After a short vehicle pursuit, the suspect in the stolen car left the roadway and landed in a pond, disabling the vehicle.
The suspect attempted to flee police on foot, but after a short foot pursuit, he was arrested without incident, police said.
The NCSO identified the suspect as Evan J. Lyons of Bardstown, age 24.
Lyons was charged with receiving stolen property under 10,000 dollars (auto), reckless driving, two counts of fleeing or evading police (first in the vehicle, second on foot), wanton endangerment, possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of marijuana, operating on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Lyons also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, police said.
The investigation will continue and the NCSO said they anticipate further charges.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office investigated several vehicle thefts throughout the county on Friday. All vehicles that were reported stolen were recovered.
