The Sewing and Vacuum Authority is partnering with Family Scholar House once again to help the families at Scholar House.
Family Scholar House’s mission is to end the cycle of poverty and transform our community by empowering families and youth to succeed in education and achieve life-long self-sufficiency.
The Sewing and Vacuum Authority donate over 40 vacuums annually, taking trade in machines that technicians refurbish, giving it a second life.
Everyone is encouraged to donate their old machines to both organization, you can turn them into any of the Sewing and Vacuum Authority stores located on Preston Highway.
Dawne Gee set a challenge to donate 300 vacuums, that would cover every single apartment at Family Scholar House.

Shopping local means the community wins, small businesses win, and you win.
This holiday season, the Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) hosted its annual Buy Local, Win $1000 hoLOUdays Contest. November 19 to January 2nd, shoppers entered to win a $1,000 LIBA gift card at any of the 450+ LIBA member retailers. One receipt = one entry. Today’s winner can shop at any participating local retailer.
A recent study of Louisville-area businesses shows that for every $100 spent at a locally-owned, independent business, $55 is reinvested locally, whereas only $14 is reinvested when that same money is spent at a national chain.
The winner was Haley, she was contacted after the show.
