Teenager killed when pickup truck lost wheel on I-65 in Clark County

CLARKSVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Indiana State Police are investigating a deadly crash on I-65 at 31-W in Clark County.

The crash was first reported around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to ISP.

Peter D. Gaetano, 51, of Covert, Michigan was driving his GMC pickup truck southbound when the back driver’s side wheel came off his vehicle, sending it up into the air. The wheel went over the concrete median and into the northbound lanes of I-65. That’s when it collided with a Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Olivia Kustes, 18, of Rineyville.

Kustes' truck continued into the emergency lane without stopping. Another driver, Alvin P. Logan, 45, of Chicago, placed his semi-truck in front of it, slowly bringing it to a stop.

Kustes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The crash is currently being investigated by ISP crash reconstructionists.
