LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Students at Atherton High School learned Tuesday that they had won $10,000 for the school's art program.
The students were named runners-up in the Vans Custom Culture Competition for a design the created onto a plain white pair of Vans sneakers.
"It was so much fun," senior Natasha Campbell said. "Everyone worked so hard."
Some of the students said the fact that used art to get money for the school made the award even sweeter.
"Without art, I wouldn't be me," junior Joanna Locke said. "I wouldn't be who I am today. I hope that this money goes toward those people after me that can understand who they are too and can figure themselves out through art."
This wasn't the first time Vans did this contest, and it doesn't look like it will be the last time Atherton will be participating.
The grand prize winner has not been announced.
