LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed on Dixie Highway near the Algonquin neighborhood of Louisville.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday on Dixie at Ratcliffe Avenue, MetroSafe confirmed. That’s just south of the Algonquin Parkway.

Emergency crews arrived to find a woman who had been hit by a car.

She died at the scene, Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell said.

Mitchell said she was trying to cross the road when she was hit. She has not been named.

The driver of the car that hit her sped off, going south on Dixie, and did not stop, Mitchell said.

Dixie Highway remains closed as of 11:40 p.m. as the LMPD Traffic Unit investigates. Drivers should avoid the area.
