LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Louisville pool that has been closed for the summer due to Metro budget cuts is set to open Monday.
District 14 Councilwoman Cindi Fowler was able to get Sun Valley Pool reopened through revised budget funding and using her Neighborhood Development Funds to pay for lifeguards and their training.
Fowler specifically thanked Louisville Metro Parks for coordinating the lifeguard training and working with volunteers to get the pool ready. She said there were a number of people who immediately stepped up wanting to be lifeguards for the pool.
Fowler said this pool is something children deserve to have during the summer and that without pools children do not have a chance to learn to swim.
"We need the kids to be able to enjoy a swimming pool. we need kids to be able to learn how to swim that haven't learned how to swim. You can't learn how to swim on a spray ground,” she said. She added this huge accomplishment would not have been possible without amazing community support.
The official kick off party is set for noon, with swimming starting at 1 p.m. Admission will be $2 for children and $3 for adults.
