BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WAVE) – A crash between a car and a semi on Interstate 65 in Bullitt County killed one person early Thursday.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-65 at the 110 mile marker around 1:40 a.m., according to the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office.
The first deputies on the scene found a Ford Mustang overturned in the center median and a semi stopped about a half-mile down the road.
Witnesses said the Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed in the center lane and was trying to pass the semi on the drivers' side when the two vehicles made contact.
Investigators said the Mustang went under the semi and breaking the rear impact guard and striking the tried before freeing itself and rolling over several times. The impact tore the roof from the Mustang.
The driver of the Mustang, the only occupant of the vehicle, was killed. The name of that person has not been released. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The left and center lanes of I-65 South were closed during the crash investigation, but have since reopened to traffic.
