Allen’s 3-pointers help the Cats snap 6-game losing streak

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Dontaie Allen drilled seven three-pointers as Kentucky slipped past Mississippi State, 78-73 in double overtime on Saturday in Starkville, MS. Allen who tallied 23 points, was 7 of 11 from the arc en route to 23 points. His three-point barrage in the second half helped UK erase a 9-point second half deficit.

The Bulldogs scored on a fast break to go up 50-41 . Then with just over 9 minutes left to play, UK head coach John Calipari was hit with a pair of technicals and was ejected. Then UK led by Allen, got red hot. With about five minutes left, Allen connected from the arc to give his team a one point lead, 56-55. Later, he knocked down another triple to knot the game at 59. At the end of regulation, the teams were even at 61-all.

Next in the O.T. , Allen threw in another bomb from the arc to lift Kentucky to a 68-65 lead. But the Bulldogs eventually drew even at 68 and the teams were headed to a second overtime.

That’s when the Wildcats grabbed control. First Olivier Sarr hit a three and the Cats moved out in front 71-68. Sarr chalked up a double-double with 14 points and a dozen boards. Next, Allen knocked down back -to- back 3′s as UK drew out by six, 76-70. A State triple near game’s end created the final score of 78-73.

Kentucky improved to 2 and 6.
