LA GRANGE, Ky. (WAVE) - A man has been arrested by the La Grange Police Department in connection to a robbery at a Walmart store on New Year’s Eve.
Shampayle Strother, 26, was arrested on Monday and charged with robbery, wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault.
According to an arrest report from La Grange police, Strother entered the Walmart store on New Moody Lane on December 31 just after 12 p.m., and went to the jewelry section to ask about gold necklaces inside the counter.
The clerk opened the counter, and Strother pushed her back, causing her to fall and hit her head. The suspect then grabbed a number of gold necklaces and left the store.
Walmart staff and shoppers ran to assist the clerk after she had fallen.
Surveillance video captured that afternoon showed the suspect heading towards the Best Western Ashbury Inn, where he was wearing the same clothing seen in the Walmart security footage.
Footage from the Best Western then showed Strother pass employees within the hotel and enter a stairwell, where he is believed to change his clothes. Strother then exited the hotel.
Strother was identified by the employees at the hotel, and after receiving a tip over the phone Monday, an officer located the suspect in the parking lot of the Oldham County Library. The suspect wearing a gold necklace around his wrist which was identified by Walmart as one of the stolen items.
La Grange police arrested Strother, who is currently booked at the Oldham County Jail. A court date is set for Strother’s arraignment on January 6.
