LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The extent of the damage is far worst than expected after a pipe burst at the school last week.

The school’s Principal Traci Morris said the costs are expected to add up to $250,000.

The gym floor was completely covered by several inches of water.

“A final determination has not been made about why the pipe burst, but the extreme cold that day may have been a contributing factor,” JCPS Spokeswoman Renee Murphy said.

The school’s Principal Traci Morris said the costs are expected to add up to $250,000.

Water seeped into the sub flooring, rotting the wood support beam underneath. Floors were redone at the school last August, but they will now be ripped out and completely replaced.

The school’s athletic director tried to take it in stride, though he said it was a hard hit.

“Damage was worse than initially thought,” he said. “Water actually got under the floor all the way to the subfloor. When we do something we do it all the way!”

Morris said they are currently trying to work with the insurance company.
