LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A month of volunteerism has kicked off in Louisville..

Mayor Greg Fischer formally kicked off the annual Give a Day, joining representatives at SOS, a Louisville non-profit that collects and distributes medical supplies and equipment.

Give A Day started as a one-day service opportunity in 2011, and grew to 10 days in 2019.

And with the month of April beginning Thursday, this year’s Give A Day will be a full month of helping the community through volunteer opportunities.

“While COVID, yes, has forced all of us to adjust to a new normal, adjust to volunteering a different way, that hasn’t stopped us to continue to rise to the occasion to try and be of support to those who need us in this community.,” Metro United Way Chief Impact Officer Adria Johnson said.

Several volunteer projects are planned through the month, including a virtual First Aid Supplies Collection Drive, for SOS, as well as community cleanups and blood drives.
