LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)- If 2.5 million people in Kentucky get vaccinated, Governor Andy Beshear said he would lift COVID restrictions. So what will it take to get 2.5 million Kentuckians vaccinated? Kroger and the Kentucky Lottery think a little extra cash could help.

Starting today and , more money means fewer problems for Kroger and Walmart customers if you get your COVID shot. Tyree Hughes was shopping at a Kroger when we stopped him and asked if he has been vaccinated. Hughes said he hasn’t gotten around to his yet.

“Life,” Hughes said. “I just haven’t I guess.”

“I don’t think we should push people to do it if they don’t want to,” another shopper said. “However I have a ill father so that’s why I did it.”

The l=Kentucky Lottery is giving an extra push at the tune of $225,000. It’s giving 225,000 coupons for free Cash Ball 225 tickets while supplies last.

“I think it would give everybody more of an incentive,” Hughes said.

Because the coronavirus didn’t hit his circle and he never got sick, Hughes said that held him off from getting the vaccine. However, after learning about the lottery ticket, and knowing the shot does keep you safe, moved him closer to signing up for the shot.

The promotion works at any Kroger with a pharmacy or Little Clinic and all Walmart locations that sell lottery tickets. Hughes has never played the lottery but thinks he could get lucky with this shot.

“Next time I’m here [I’ll get it},” Hughes said.

Drawings for Cash Ball 225 are held nightly, so that means there’s a new chance to win each day.

Coupons for a free ticket will be distributed through Friday, May 21 or until the coupons run out. You will have until June 1 to exchange your coupon for a free Cash Ball 225 ticket.

You must be at least 18 years to receive a coupon for a free lottery ticket.
