(WAVE) - Saint Peter’s Daryl Banks scored 27 points and the Peacocks went 8-for-8 from the free throw in overtime in an 85-79 overtime shocker over #2 seed Kentucky.
It is just the 10th time since the NCAA field expanded to 64 teams in 1986 that a #15 seed has knocked off a #2 seed.
All-American Oscar Tshiebwe led Kentucky with 30 points and 16 rebounds.
The Cats were just 4-15 from three and 23-35 from the line. The Cats were 1-6 from the line in overtime, while Saint Peter’s went 8-8.
Sahvir Wheeler had 11 points, 6 assists and 6 turnovers for UK.
Kentucky’s season ends at 26-7. Saint Peter’s improves to 19-11 and moves on to a second round matchup with the winner of the San Francisco-Murray State game.
