Authorities identify Louisville man killed in I-71 crash
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Jefferson County coroner released the identity of the man killed in a crash on I-71 North Sunday evening.
Louisville Metro Police officers responded to calls of a crash on I-71 North at the I-264 West ramp around 7:30 p.m., according to LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell.
Early investigation revealed a Ford F-150, driven by 50-year-old Quincy James Evans, was driving north on I-71 when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Police said the truck crossed three lanes of traffic before crashing into a guardrail on the right side of the road. The truck came to a stop between the guardrail and a rock wall.
The passenger inside the truck, 68-year-old Charles Polston, died at the scene front blunt force injuries, according to the coroner.
Officials said Evans needed to be removed from the truck by emergency crews. He taken to University Hospital in critical condition.
Once Evans arrived at the hospital, officials noted a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot.
The hospital said a toxicology test revealed Evans’ blood alcohol level at .167.
Evans has been charged with murder after Polston’s death.
