Nation’s top gymnasts preparing for Winter Cup at Freedom Hall
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Some of the best gymnasts in the country will be in Louisville all weekend.
The Winter Cup at Freedom Hall kicks off on Friday with a few different competitions for men and women. It’s a qualifying event for the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
Chellsie Memmel, the 2005 all-around world champion and 2008 Olympic silver medalist in the team competition, she pointed out just how hard these gymnasts work to get to this level.
“It is essentially a full-time job. It is at least six days a week for most of them, so they’re spending a lot of time in the gym. Even when they’re not in the gym, there is recovery. So much goes into the sport and not just their time in the gym,” Memmel said.
