BLOOMFIELD, Ky. (WAVE) - Dozens of students from Bloomfield Middle School in Nelson County protested the county’s school board just outside of their school Monday afternoon.

Several students carried signs that called out the current school board for their recent decisions. Some signs accused school board members of being “corrupt.”

It comes after a chaotic previous week at Nelson County Schools, which was sparked by a controversial decision at the last school board meeting in favor of a planned merger between Thomas Nelson High School and Nelson County High School. After the board approved the plan in a 3-2 vote, school board member Damon Jackey resigned and several students and staff members walked out of school in protest.

The walk-outs were so extensive the school district canceled school on Thursday and Friday, citing a lack of staff.
