Diane Porter resigns as chair of the Jefferson County Board of Education

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Jefferson County Public Schools announced Diane Porter, chairwoman of the Jefferson County Board of Education, resigned from her role.
Porter said in a letter to the board that she’s resigning to focus on her health.
Porter said she has an ongoing chronic illness and she’s unable to continue to fulfill her professional responsibilities at the level of excellence because of it.
She’s a lifelong educator and has been a JCBE member since June of 2010.
Porter has been chairwoman multiple times since 2012 and she’s the first African American woman to hold the position.
Her resignation is effective immediately, according to the letter.
