LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Homicide detectives are investigating after a man and woman were found fatally shot overnight, leaving two children without parents.

Police say a call came in just after 1 a.m. of shots fired in the area of the Iroquois Housing Complex in the 4100 block of Tuscarora Way. LMPD officers who responded found nothing, but a second caller told police it sounded like the shots were fired from inside a building.

When police returned around 2 a.m. after the second call, they entered one of the buildings and found the victims - 23-year-old Timela Offutt Smith and 30-year-old Dion Smith - dead from gunshot wounds.

Police say the couple's two children were home when their parents were killed.

Offutt's mother, Keisha Blackwell, told us the children are traumatized. "I was just with her yesterday, just with her! I was going to stay all night with her to help her with the kids, but I came home. I just want to see justice for my babies, both of them because they did not deserve it at all. They did not deserve it."

Blackwell pleaded for whoever is responsible to come forward. "If they can find it in their heart - I understand how drugs is and I know what they do to you - but if they can find it in their heart, I pray that the Lord will draw you to turn yourself in and let justice be done."

Police were canvassing the neighborhood Friday, looking for witnesses and clues. Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous crime tipline at 574-LMPD (574-5673).
