LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A report issued Wednesday says there is a shortage of affordable housing in Louisville Metro, both rental and privately owned. The report by the Metropolitan Housing Coalition says the economy is partly to blame.
"A lot of people who have been able to keep their jobs have taken pay cuts or settled for lower paying jobs and so this is causing widespread problem of ability to pay your rent or mortgage," said John Vick, author of the report.
According to the report, most subsidized housing is located in high poverty areas where there are very few jobs. The study also showed the number of homeless children here jumped by nearly 10% in the past year to more than 8,500.
