Somerset death under investigation

SOMERSET, KY. (AP) - Somerset police are investigating the slaying of a 72-year-old man who was found dead in his apartment early Saturday.

The Commonwealth Journal in Somerset reports that police became suspicious when they found Homer Carrender's vehicle some distance from his home. Police officers later found Carrender's body in his apartment.

Chief Deputy Coroner Jim McWhorter says Carrender had two stab wounds to his chest. He says there was also evidence of blunt force injuries to the head and face.

Somerset police Detective Shannon Smith says investigators have identified a person of interest in the case.
