2 men accused of cutting phone lines for copper

PRESTONBURG, KY. (AP) - Two men were arrested in Floyd County after deputies said they were cutting down telephone lines to steal copper.

Sheriff John K. Blackburn told WYMT-TV that deputies saw two men with bolt cutters on top of a van cutting down lines in the middle of the night.

Blackburn said 44-year-old Ernest Little and 28-year-old Jeremey Paul Kilburn were pretending to be workers repairing the lines.

The sheriff said the theft endangered residents who might need help after the winter storm.

Investigators think the suspects might also be responsible for other cases where telephone lines were cut down. Little and Kilburn face several theft and drug charges. They are being held on a $10,000 bond at the Floyd County Detention Center.
