RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY (WAVE) - A four-year-old girl was killed and an 8-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after the two were struck by a car following a birthday party Saturday in Russell County, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky State Police, 36-year-old Jennifer Hardin of Russell Springs, had just picked up her son from a birthday party. As she was turning her car around to leave, she struck 4-year-old Lilla Brizendine and 8-year-old Gabrielle York who were playing in the yard next door.

Brizendine was pronounced dead at Russell County Hospital. York was flown to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, where she remained in critical condition on Sunday.

A dispatcher at the KSP post in Columbia told WAVE 3 News that the investigation is continuing. So far, no charges have been filed against Hardin.
