Investigation continues after LMPD officer shoots suspect

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An investigation is continuing after a LMPD officers shot a suspect. It happened 9:15 p.m. Saturday in Boone Square Park in the city's west end.

Officers were called to the scene on the evening of Oct. 9 after they determined Jerry Hampton was shooting at another man. The three officers who responded say Hampton shot at them and they returned fire, striking Hampton three times.

One teen says he saw it all unfold.

"And they got - the dude ran up there and then two cop cars came and was shooting at him and then that's about all we saw 'cause we ran into the house."

All three officers are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard procedure anytime an officer fires his weapon.

Hampton is recovering at University Hospital.

He faces charges pf criminal attempted murder of police officer and criminal mischief.
