LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville couple is facing charges after police say they used their son and a wheelchair to shoplift. And police say the boy did not even need a wheelchair to begin with.

Investigators say it happened Jan. 19 while 30-year-old Jason Johnson, his 11-year-old son, and the boy's mother, 31-year-old Carrie McDaniel, were shopping at Kohl's on Standiford Plaza Dr. and J.C. Penney's at Jefferson Mall. Police say Johnson and McDaniel hid store merchandise inside their son's wheelchair and left without paying.

According to police, employees at J.C. Penney tried to stop the couple, but they fought back, injuring one employee.

Johnson and McDaniel were arrested Feb. 7. They are facing charges of robbery and unlawful transaction with a minor.
