2 men drown in Russell Fork River a week apart

ELKHORN CITY, KY (AP) - A former basketball player at Pikeville College has drowned while swimming in the Russell Fork River, the second drowning in the river in just over a week.

Coach Kelly Wells says 27-year-old Ewan Linton was swimming at the Breaks Interstate Park near Elkhorn City on Friday when he went under.

He told WYMT-TV that Linton, a native of Jamaica, graduated from Pikeville last fall.

William "Buddy" Hall, a minister at Feds Creek Church of Christ, drowned in the Russell Fork River on June 4 during an outing with his grandchildren. Kentucky State Police say Hall was swept off his feet by the current while trying to cross a section of the river.

A funeral for Linton is planned at Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City.
