KSP identifies woman in one-car accident

TAYLORSVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky State Police have identified the young woman involved in a one-car accident near the Bullitt/ Spencer County line.

23-year-old Lauren Gardner of Mount Washington was airlifted to University Hospital after flipping her vehicle on 31E, south of Max Rouse Road around 8:50 Saturday morning.

Sheriff Stump said the car rolled over and Gardner was ejected. According to the license plates on her Nissan Versa, she is a resident of Bullitt County.

"She lost control of the vehicle, over corrected, slid sideways and starting rolling and ejected her out of the vehicle," Spencer Co. Sheriff Buddy Stamp said.

An off-duty EMT was the first to arrive on the scene and assist the driver, who was fading in and out of consciousness. She was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital with serious injuries.

"She was going in and out of consciousness, that's all we know at the time," Stamp said.

Sheriff Stamp said it appears the driver may have been text messaging a few minutes prior to the rollover.  Kentucky State Police investigators will now look into whether distracted driving played a factor into the accident.

University Hospital would not release Gardner's condition but said she has serious head injuries as well as internal injuries.
