LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - When the pyrotechnic power faded into the night sky and more than 500,000 people went home, litter dotted the landscape of the North Great Lawn of Waterfront Park.
Breakdown and clean-up from Thunder Over Louisville began immediately after the fireworks. Tru-Service and Rumpke crews worked overnight to remove disposable trash receptacles. Some workers were still there as volunteers arrived early Sunday morning.
Volunteers and Louisville's YouthBuild group helped pick up trash. They participated with Mayor Greg Fischer who encouraged the community to donate time for his 'Give A Day' service initiative.
Metro officials, along with Tru-Service and Rumpke, planned to finish litter removal by Sunday afternoon or until they completed the job.
