LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A veteran Louisville firefighter was arrested late Tuesday by Metro police on charges of trafficking in marijuana.
Willie F. McBride, Jr., 45, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on July 3 after police executed a search warrant at his home in the 3100 block of Flair Knoll Dr.
An arrest report states that a large quantity of marijuana was seized, along with drug paraphernalia. Alicia Smiley, a Louisville Metro Police spokesperson, tells WAVE 3 that 31 pounds of marijuana was found during the search.
Police also found a 12 gauge pistol grip shotgun, a .40 caliber Glock handgun and a Ruger Mini 14 autoloading rifle.
In addition to the trafficking charge, McBride was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and trafficking within 1,000 yards of a school.
Capt. Sal Melendez, public information officer for Louisville Fire and Rescue, told WAVE 3 that McBride is a 19 year veteran of the department.
Melendez said McBride, a sergeant currently assigned to Engine 4 on Frankfort Avenue in Crescent Hill, will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Public Integrity Unit.
