LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The mother of a young lady who was shot and killed, along with her children, is opening up to WAVE 3 about the alleged triple murder.

Sade' goldsmith and her two boys were killed in her new house. The boys' father, John Devine, is charged with murder.

Goldsmith's mother, Donna Goldsmith, said she thinks her daughter's success and willpower to overcome obstacles angered Devine.

"Sade' never said what she couldn't do. She said what she was going to do. He didn't like that," Goldsmith said.

Sade' Goldsmith and her two boys, John and JonT, lived with Devine weeks before they moved into her new Pleasure Ridge Park home.

"Once that key was in her hands with that home he felt like, wow, this is it. I'm gone," the mother and grandmother said.

Devine was hospitalized after suffering a gunshot wound to his chest. Police said Sade' and the boys were killed by gunshots.

However, Donna Goldsmith is adamant: Devine was not an abusive father. "He was a loving father. He loved those kids with all he had."

She said when it came to her daughter's relationship with him, "There were many, many battles. Sometimes Sade' would lock the kids in a room so there weren't around it. It was bad."

Goldsmith said her daughter lived with Devine for a few weeks when her apartment lease expired. When Sade' purchased the home, Donna believes Devine became angry with her single-woman independence.

"No police officer. No alarm. No family member or anything could've stopped that. I'm not going to hold hate because if I hold hate in my heart I'm no better than him," Donna Goldsmith said.

Devine has been hospitalized since the July 15 shooting. Once doctors release him, Devine will be transferred to Metro Corrections.
