BRECKENRIDGE CO, KY (WAVE) – A woman is recovering at University Hospital after a pit bull attacked her as she was walking to a friend's house, according to Cloverport Police.
The lady may lose part of her arm from injuries she suffered during the incident. Animal Control officers captured the dog shortly after the attack. The animal is currently quarantined and may be held for 10 days before it is euthanized.
Neighbors told WAVE 3 they heard a cry for help and rushed to the 400 block of Cherry Street around 6 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, neighbors said the dog was biting the woman as she laid on the ground.
Police Chief Jeff Hendricks said the victim, who is believed to be in her mid to late 50's, lives in a nearby adult care facility. Officers said the woman is deaf and has difficulty communicating.
The dog's owner, Jimmy Sanders, said he recently adopted the dog from a friend. Sanders has been cited for violating local ordinances prohibiting pets from roaming and a state law against owning a vicious animal, according to Chief Hendricks.
The victim's arm below her elbow may be amputated because of the wounds she suffered. WAVE 3 will stay with this developing story on air, online and on your mobile.
