BLOOMINGTON, IN (WAVE) - A convicted killer and sex offender is calling Jennings County, Indiana home and residents in the area are fighting to keep him out of their city.
Robert Evan Lee, 57, murdered and dismembered a woman in 1986 in Monroe County.
Lee was released from prison Saturday after serving 25 years of a 60 year sentence.
The Department of Corrections normally sends parolees to live in the county in which they were convicted, but people living in Bloomington want him gone, "I don't think you need to put somebody like that right in the middle of a college town. Put him somewhere else," said a concerned resident named Victoria.
Public pressure caused the DOC to take Lee out of Monroe County and move him to Jennings County for his year-long parole.
Lee is now listed on Indiana's sex and violent offender registry as a condition of his parole, but after the year is up, his name will disappear off the list because being on the registry was not part of the law when he was convicted.
