LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A SWAT stand-off ended after officers entered a home and discovered no one was inside.
According to Louisville Metro Police Spokesperson Alicia Smiley, officers were attempting to serve a high risk warrant on East Wellington Avenue Friday afternoon when the suspect barricaded himself inside the home.
Police said he was wanted on a wanton endangerment warrant and he had allegedly been threatening people in the neighborhood.
The SWAT Team was involved in the stand-off for around four hours. After using a gas in the home they entered and discovered the suspect was not inside.
Police identified the suspect as Matthew Johnson, 20.
Neighbors says they aren't surprised Johnson was the center of this swat stand-off because on Thursday, they say they had to call police on him. "He was trying to break into our neighbor's car and our neighbors went outside trying to defend their stuff," said Andrea Gilhaus, neighbor. "He pulled a shovel on him at first and then he said I'm going to get my gun, I'm going to kill you all."
Neighbors say he was went and got a gun on Thursday night. "At first I was going out there to try to help my neighbors, but when I seen the gun, I ran inside because I was scared," said Gilhaus.
