Christmas shopping on Thanksgiving Day; diehards ready
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – With Black Friday encroaching on Thanksgiving Day like never before, some people already are camping outside Kentuckiana stores to make sure they don't miss out on a deal.
At least four tents have been pitched outside the Best Buy on the Outer Loop in Okolona.
"I think it's exciting," said Best Buy Sales Manager Dan Sargent. "I think it's great to see people that are really getting geared up for Black Friday."
Shopper Rhonda Shaver had her own thoughts on the tents popping up days before Black Friday. "They will have those same sales, like, right after Christmas, so I think it's kind of ridiculous," Shaver said.
The Black Friday stock was tightly under wraps at the Best Buy store on Monday, just waiting for the midnight hour to arrive the day after Thanksgiving for those door-buster sales.
"55-inch Samsung LED, that's going to be an amazing price," Sargent said as he explained some of the Black Friday deals. "A lot of cell phones are going to be on sale, a lot of great stuff in the ad."
Walmart, Sears, Kmart and Toys 'R' Us plan to open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Target will open at 9 p.m. on the holiday. Some Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic stores will also welcome shoppers on Thanksgiving.
"I think it's a great idea for those who want to get great sales, great bargains," shopper Sonia Wharton said. "Me personally, I'd rather be home with family than out shopping."
Shaver thought along the same lines, saying, "I kind of feel like Thanksgiving is kind of taken away just a little bit, but you know... 'tis the season."
It is also the season retailers will be thankful for all that cash people are shelling out for the holidays.
