CADIZ, KY (WAVE) - The car of a missing woman who was with her great grandson was discovered in a ravine.
According to police, family members became worried Thursday when they could not get in touch with Waynette Cain, 63.
Rescuers located her car close to midnight down a ravine in a creek bed. Officials said she was driving on Highway 139 when her car left the road and slammed into a tree before going into the ravine.
Cain was pronounced dead at the scene, but amazingly her 7-month-old great grandson, Dakota, survived.
Chief of the Trigg County Rescue Squad Barry Fox said, "He was on the opposite side of the vehicle still strapped in his car seat. He was just sitting there looking around. He wasn't crying or nothing. When we got him out of the car, he smiled at us like he knew he'd been saved."
Cain's daughter, Lacie Thuman, is torn between gratitude and heartbreak, "Now me and my brothers have got to come down here and figure out what to do with everything because you don't get a chance to say goodbye, to say thank you."
Loved one's said they will remember Cain as a giving person who loved her family and her animals.
