LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Drivers were expected to encounter problems Tuesday morning in the area of Interstate 64 and Hurstbourne Lane after a semi carrying mail caught fire and overturned.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. Tuesday on the ramp from eastbound I-64 to northbound Hurstbourne Lane. The ramp was expected to remain closed for several hours. The ramp from northbound Hurstbourne to eastbound I-64 also was expected to be closed intermittently throughout the morning while about 50 gallons of spilled diesel fuel is cleaned up.

A witness described hearing what sounded like an explosion then saw nearby construction workers run to the burning truck to pull the driver to safety.

The cause of the fire and wreck is under investigation.
