Police issue murder warrant for dead woman's husband
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The body of a mother and grandmother was discovered in her apartment Thursday afternoon. Tondelia Zapata, 62, was found dead at the couple's apartment in the 5200 block of Sedge Court in Pleasure Ridge Park. Louisville Metro Police say her husband is the person responsible.
Family members say Tondelia was loved by everyone and had no enemies. As far as Louisville Metro Police know, there had been no prior domestic disputes between Tondelia and her husband Steven. The couple had only been married for a couple of months.
Now police want to question Steven Zapata, 53, about his wife's death. A murder warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Lt. Todd Kessinger, commander of the LMPD Homicide Unit, said Steven Zapata placed a call to a family member and told them something had occurred, but did not say exactly what.
Kessinger said his investigators have been in touch with police departments from a couple of different cities that are in opposite directions from Louisville where Zapata may be.
"We don't have the exact location as to where he's at," said Kessinger, "We do have a pretty good idea of places we're currently looking but we do think he has left the city of Louisville."
Kessinger said Steven Zapata should be considered armed and dangerous. He is believed to be driving a 2010 Black Hyundai Sonata with Kentucky license plate 540 KTE.
At the request of homicide investigators, how Tondelia Zapata died is not being released. Kessinger described the injuries as a result of "obvious assault."
Anyone with information about Steven Zapata is asked to call the LMPD anonymous tipline at 574-LMPD (5673).
