Police: Drunk driver hits child on neighborhood street

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man police said was driving drunk hit a child riding a bike on a small neighborhood road.

LMPD officers said on Saturday night around 9:15 p.m., they received reports of an injury accident in the 3600 block of Dena Drive, a small street off of Manslick Road near Berry Boulevard in south Louisville.

According to a witness, a car was speeding through the neighborhood when it hit the child who was thrown from the bicycle and rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Thor Bhattari, 29, continued driving after hitting the child, running off the road into power lines before the car came to a stop. The electricity in the neighborhood was knocked out for a short amount of time after the crash.

Bhattari was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI.
