ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - A Hodgenville man was charged Monday with a long list of crimes including murder after a weekend motor vehicle crash that killed two people in Elizabethtown.

Kentucky State Police said Earl D. Richardson, 46, was under the influence of alcohol Sunday night when the Chevrolet Blazer he was driving slammed into a car driven by Johnie M. Dennis, 75, of Elizabethtown. Dennis and his passenger, Luevenia Dennis, 71, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Richardson and his passenger, Earl Richardson Jr., 10, were taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital for treatment and later released.

Sunday's crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of KY 1135/Roundtop Road and KY 61/Lincoln Parkway. Police said Richardson's Blazer was traveling southbound on Lincoln Parkway and that Dennis' Nissan Sentra was traveling west on Roundtop Road and attempting to cross the Parkway. Dennis entered the path of the Blazer, which struck the Nissan on the passenger side.

Richardson was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol with aggravating circumstances, no operators license, failure to maintain insurance, possession of open alcoholic beverage in motor vehicle, 1st degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and two counts of murder. He was taken to the Hardin County Detention Center.

Police said everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt.
