LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Jefferson County Public Schools teacher and coach is facing charges for having inappropriate contact with a minor.

An arrest warrant states Casey Kays, 39, repeatedly called and sent text messages to a 15-year-old. The warrant states the text messages were of a sexual nature.

According to the warrant Kays was warned by JCPS stop making contact with the teen, but refused to do so.

In a statement to WAVE 3 News, Ben Jackey, a JCPS spokesperson said:

"Due to an ongoing District investigation and police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment at this time. The employee was placed in non-instructional duties before the school year began when the allegations surfaced."

Kays, who worked at The Academy @ Shawnee as a teacher and girls volleyball coach, is charged with unlawful transaction with a minor.
