LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – For the first time in years Kentucky Kingdom came alive and WAVE 3 News learned firsthand one of the old coasters still packs a punch.
During a visit to the park on Thursday we got a chance to ride a wooden coaster recognized as one of the best in the country, Thunder Run.
The 90-foot tall, 2,850-foot long coaster opened in 1990 and run until 2009, the last season before Six Flags filed for bankruptcy, resulting in the closure of the park.
Developer Ed Hart said Kentucky Kingdom's gates will open in May 2014 and will feature more than 10 new attractions, including three new theme park rides and three new rides for children.
Workers are also preparing for a brand new $7 million steel coaster and eight new attractions that will double the size of the water park.
