LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A fiery crash in Okolona happened near Jefferson Mall. Just before 7 p.m., a car collided with a tractor trailer rig on Outer Loop at Jefferson Boulevard starting a fire that consumed both vehicles.

Spokespersons for Louisville Metro Police and the Okolona Fire Department said the semi operated by Papa John's Pizza was heading west on Outer Loop. The rig was starting to make a right turn into a parking lot when the car tried to pass it on the right side. The car struck the fuel tank of the semi causing the fire.

It took firefighters from Okolona and Highview 47 minutes to get the fire under control.

Three people in the car were taken to the hospital by Metro EMS. The injuries are reported to be non-life threatening. Two people in the semi were not injured.

Traffic on Outer Loop was blocked nearly three hours while crews cleaned up spilled fuel and removed the wreckage.
