Louisville, Lexington mayors team up to promote Kentucky exports

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A message to "build it locally, sell it globally" was delivered Monday by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer in a push to expand exports across the Commonwealth.

Mayor Fischer teamed up with Lexington Mayor Jim Gray for the Bluegrass Economic Advancement Movement, an effort to promote the region's products to a worldwide customer base.

Monday the Beam Initiative, received a boost with a $200,000 grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation.

The grant will help connect small businesses in Kentucky and southern Indiana to global companies.

"Knowing the contacts, knowing the resources is really critical. And that's what this is all about. Making those introductions so you can begin your export plan," said Fischer.

Fischer and Gray set a goal in 2012 to increase exports by 50 percent in the next five years.

The two mayors have already exceeded the goal for the year.
