LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The driver of a car pulled over six months ago for an equipment violation and hitting an officer while fleeing from police is in custody.

An arrest warrant says Robert Latour Downs, 39, was stopped while driving south on Dixie Highway on October 5, 2013, when he was pulled over by Louisville Metro police officers at Algonquin Parkway for not having his headlights on. While checking the registration, officers learned the 2012 Chevrolet Impala had been reported stolen in California.

As officers went to arrest Downs, he placed the car in gear and sped off. As Downs steered the car to avoid one officer, the rear of the car fishtailed and struck another officer, throwing him into a ditch along the side of the road.

Police said Downs drove away, cutting off other drivers and running a red light.

Downs was arrested April 21 at Dixie Highway and Allston Lane. He was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections on charges of wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, receiving stolen property and several traffic charges.
